A Conversation with Greg Elser, Chief Technology Officer, Transitions Hospice & Palliative Care

Greg Elser, Our new CTO!

With the growth of Transitions Hospice, Transitions Home Medical Group and Transitions Medical Equipment, we’ve seen a number of technology platforms introduced into the day-to-day management of patient care and professional resources. Between HomeCare HomeBase, Practice Fusion, Trella, Referral Source Link, NextGen and MUSE, it was time to bring on Greg Elser, our Chief Technology Officer, to provide leadership for strategic planning and execution of all of Transition’s technology needs and initiatives. We sat down with Greg to learn more about him and what his hopes are for Transitions as he joins the team.

Greg grew up in Northwest Indiana but has lived in the western suburbs of Chicago for the past 25 years. Professionally, he most recently worked for Athletico Physical Therapy where he was responsible for all aspects of clinical applications as well as the data/analytics platforms. As this is a newly created role, Greg has spent his first few weeks getting a deeper understanding of how Transitions operates and what technology platforms we do – and don’t – have in place.

When asked what goals he wants to set for his team, Greg said, “I see three areas that my team’s goals will revolve around: 1) supporting the NextGen EMR implementation project, 2) building out and supporting the interoperability of our clinical systems and 3) building out our data/analytics platform.” Greg is a very goal-oriented individual, earning his  2nd degree black belt in Shotokan Karate in which he continues to actively train, compete and officiate. Before COVID, he was also a volunteer instructor for pre-karate students (5-8yrs old). When not behind the computer or in the dojo, both Greg and his wife, Julia, are avid hikers. In June, they were able to visit Northwest Oregon where they enjoyed hiking and incredible views throughout the Mt. Hood/Columbia River Gorge area.

For Greg, technology is just as exciting as karate and exploring the country. We asked him what he is most excited about for Transitions’ technology going forward, and he shared, “I am very excited about being a part of this rapidly growing company – everyone is so passionate about what they do. There are so many opportunities to make technology easier to use and understand for our employees and partners, as well as improve and enhance our use of information while providing the best levels of care.”

We couldn’t agree more, Greg. Welcome to the Transitions team.
