Social Work Hospice & Palliative Care Network: General Assembly 2017

On February 19 to 21, the Social Work Hospice & Palliative Care Network is having its 2017 General Assembly. This year’s conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, is centered in the theme “We’re All In: Advancing Inclusive Practice in Hospice and Palliative Social Work”. For the third consecutive year, Transitions Hospice Executive Director, Sara Dado, LCSW, will be one of the speakers to share her knowledge and expertise in this field. She will be discussing the Use of Self Compassion in Palliative and Hospice Social Work and below is a brief summary of the topic’s coverage. All humans have experienced a lack of self compassion. By simply practicing empathy and trying to encourage joy, we may leave patients feeling vulnerable to emotions they are unable to manage when we are not present. Learning to show ourselves and teach our patients kindness, connection and comfort by encouraging skills in mindfulness and self compassion builds resilience in clinicians, patients and grieving families.
